Center for Healthcare Affordability Names Drew Johnson Senior Fellow

Veteran policy leader, think tank founder, columnist, and government watchdog joins CHA amid continued expansion.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Center for Healthcare Affordability (CHA), a project of the Institute for Legislative Analysis, today announced that Drew Johnson has joined the organization as Senior Fellow.

Johnson brings more than 25 years of experience in public policy, government accountability, and state-based reform. He is the founder of the Beacon Center of Tennessee, one of America's leading state policy-focused think tanks, and has extensive federal experience, having worked for organizations including the National Taxpayers Union, Taxpayers Protection Alliance, American Enterprise Institute, and National Center for Public Policy Research.

A nationally recognized columnist and government watchdog, Johnson's work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Newsmax, The Washington Times, The Daily Caller, and other outlets. He also brings direct political experience, having served as the Republican nominee for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District in 2024, where he received President Donald Trump's endorsement, and as the current Republican nominee for Nevada State Treasurer.

Johnson joins CHA as it expands its national platform for advancing healthcare affordability through limited-government, market-oriented reforms. The Center's work is anchored by one of the country's most comprehensive healthcare policy frameworks, with analysis dating back to World War II, and the first scorecard platform tracking the healthcare positions of all 535 members of Congress.

"We are excited to have Drew join CHA as we continue to expand on this first-of-its-kind initiative," said Ryan McGowan, CEO of the Institute for Legislative Analysis. "A very gifted healthcare expert, Drew, unlike many, has decades of experience understanding how the sausage is made not just here in Washington, but at all stages of government, down to the most local level."

"Additionally, he brings the perspective of not just a leader in the policy and think tank world, but as a candidate for office who knows the challenges facing everyday Americans and what it takes to drive real change in government," McGowan added. "We look forward to relying on his expertise as our team continues working to solve some of the greatest challenges in healthcare affordability."

"I'm honored to join the Center for Healthcare Affordability at a time when rising healthcare costs are putting tremendous pressure on American families, employers, and taxpayers," CHA Senior Fellow Drew Johnson said. "Throughout my career, I've worked to promote transparency, accountability, and market-based reforms, and I look forward to helping advance practical solutions that expand access to quality care while lowering costs."

The Center for Healthcare Affordability is one of the newly launched policy action arms of the Institute for Legislative Analysis, a national public policy research and datahub.
