Center for Healthcare Affordability Names Emily Hargan Senior Fellow
Veteran healthcare policy and government affairs strategist to help advance the Center's affordability agenda at the federal and state levels.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Center for Healthcare Affordability (CHA) today announced that Emily Hargan has joined the initiative as Senior Fellow, where she will play a central role in advancing the Center's bold agenda to promote limited government, market-oriented reforms that make healthcare more affordable for American families, employers, and taxpayers.
Hargan brings more than 25 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, and fundraising, with a particular focus on healthcare policy at both the federal and state levels. Over the course of her career, she has worked closely with clients on regulatory and legislative issues, advised political campaigns and independent organizations on policy initiatives, and helped advance regulatory policy agendas for some of Washington's leading third-party advocacy organizations.
She has also built a national reputation as a fundraiser and strategist, helping lead multi-million-dollar efforts for politicians, political organizations, and policy groups. In those roles, she has cultivated relationships with leading voices in business, public policy, and government, and has served on the finance committees for three presidential campaigns and two gubernatorial campaigns. Her background also includes close familiarity with the inner workings of federal healthcare policy at the highest levels while working side by side with her husband, former HHS Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan, in their consulting business The Hargan Group.
At the Center for Healthcare Affordability, Hargan will help guide the initiative's work to identify the underlying causes of rising healthcare costs, communicate practical reforms in clear and accessible terms, and expand the Center's reach with lawmakers, stakeholders, and policy leaders across the country.
"Emily brings a rare combination of experience that very few people in healthcare policy can match," said Ryan McGowan, CEO of the Institute for Legislative Analysis. "She understands the highest levels of how an administration operates, the realities of government affairs and corporate stakeholders, and the limited government policy framework needed to identify the right reforms. Most importantly, she knows how to turn all of that into solutions lawmakers can act on and language everyday Americans can understand, which will be essential as the Center expands its work nationally and at the state level."
Hargan said she is eager to help advance reforms that address the real causes of healthcare unaffordability and improve the system for patients, families, employers, and the broader economy.
"Healthcare plays a critical role in the lives of American families and in the strength of the economy as a whole," said Emily Hargan, Senior Fellow at the Center for Healthcare Affordability. "When public policy gets it wrong, the consequences can be enormous, with ripple effects throughout the entire system. That is why I am so excited to help advance this initiative and work with leading think tanks, the Trump administration, and members of Congress to correct longstanding flaws and advance reforms that can make healthcare truly more affordable for all Americans."
The Center for Healthcare Affordability is a project of the Institute for Legislative Analysis. The Center serves as a comprehensive resource for lawmakers, employers, and policy leaders seeking practical solutions to the healthcare cost crisis and a clearer understanding of how public policy affects affordability across the system.
